About me
Debayan Majumder is an esraj artist rooted in the traditions of Hindustani classical music. His work explores the esraj’s vocal-like expressiveness through classical performance as well as fusion, semi-classical, and Bollywood interpretations. Through disciplined training and creative exploration, he strives to preserve the instrument’s heritage while shaping a contemporary musical voice.
His Musical Journey
Hailing from Shantiniketan, a place deeply rooted in art and culture, Debayan Majumder brings over 19 years of experience to his journey in Indian classical music and the esraj. He began his training under the guidance of Pandit Buddhadev Das and Sri Durga Charan Majumdar, later refining his artistry with Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, and is currently expanding his musical understanding under the mentorship of Prattyush Banerjee.
A National Scholarship holder (CCRT), Debayan has earned notable recognition, including 1st position at Bharat Sanskriti Utsav and selection in Stars of Tomorrow, reflecting his dedication, discipline, and continued pursuit of musical excellence.
